Old Metairie
Today Old Metairie is one of the most picturesque areas of Metairie with home styles ranging from Mission Revivals and English Tudors to Neoclassic Colonial Revivals.
Metairie was settled by the French in the late 18th century along a natural levee, formed by a bayou, known as Metairie Ridge. This became Metairie Road, along which the neighborhood known today as “Old Metairie” was first developed in the early 1900s.
Metairie Road is the main thoroughfare, lined with a variety of shops, professional buildings and shopping centers, connecting Metairie to the City of New Orleans. Old Metairie is home of The Metairie Country Club. Founded in 1922, it features an 18-hole golf course with over 6,600 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72.
